Today the German national team started the journey to the World Cup in France. The opening match of the European Champion against Hungary in Rouen will start on Friday 17.45hrs. It is open, if captain Uwe Gensheimer will be on the pitch in this match. On Sunday the father of the 30-year old winger passed away. Due this unexpected bereavement, the player of Paris Saint-Germain travelled to his family.

"We are in contact with Uwe, but he will make the decision", said Oliver Roggisch, manager of the German national team as the European Champion started today the journey to Rouen without Gensheimer. The German team has to travel 600 kilometres from the last training venue in Kamen to Rouen, according to Oliver Roggisch all other players are in a good condition. Germany will reach the venue of the preliminary round in the evening.

The sad news reached Gensheimer on Sunday, he travelled immediately to his family and missed the last test match of the Germans against Austria. "It was a shocking moment for all of us. Our thoughts are with Uwe and his family, he will join the team when he feels so", said German national coach Dagur Sigurdsson. Sigurdsson nominated only fifteen players for the first matches of the World Cup, without Gensheimer it will be only fourteen for the opening match against Hungary. The other German opponents in the preliminary round are Chile, Saudi Arabia, Belarus and Croatia.
