Way to Germany 2017: Draw for European Play-offs made
Today the draw for the remaining nine European places for the upcoming Women`s World Cup 2017 in Germany took place in Gothenburg, the venue of the final of the European Championships. After reaching the semi-finals the teams of France, Denmark and The Netherlands followed defending champion Norway and host Germany with a direct ticket. Nine further tickets will be awarded in play-offs, participants of the EURO will face teams that reached this stage after a qualification.
In many duels there is a clear favourite, but for sure Olympic Champion Russia would have preferred an easier task as Poland. The host of the EURO, Sweden, also will have a hard job against Macedonia and there will be a special duel of the neighbours Croatia and Slovenia. Romania missed the direct ticket very close, after beating Germany they were ranked fifth at the EURO. To get the ticket to Germany they now have to beat Austria.
In total 24 teams will participate at the World Cup in Germany, in Asia and Panamerica the qualification tournaments will be played in the next months. From Africa the teams of Angola, Tunisia and Cameroon will travel to Germany. The preliminary groups will be drawn on 27th June in Hamburg.
